The Taming of The Tights Book Review

The Taming of The Tights is the third book in Louise Rennison's Withering Tights series. I read the first two books a while ago and finished this one last week. I would give this book about three stars but I do think that's because I loved the first two so much that it fits in with them. If you haven't read or didn't enjoy Withering Tights, I don't think you will appreciate this book in the same way. (Warning: This review will contain spoilers!)

Withering Tights, A Midsummer Tights Dream and The Taming of the Tights all follow the story of Tallulah Casey when she starts school at Dother Hall. This particular book in the series shows her attempt to keep a secret from everyone involving a kiss with the local 'bad-boy' Cain, and dreaming of the unavailable Charlie and the perfect boy Alex.

When I started reading this book, I had quite high expectations. Withering Tights is one of my favourite books. It's funny, creative, clever, and you knew where you stood with all the characters (if that makes any sense). Sadly, The Taming of the Tights wasn't like that. It almost felt like the whole thing had been written by someone else which was disappointing. Personally, I didn't like the characters as much because I felt they said or did things I wouldn't have imagined which is obviously what Louise Rennison imagined so it is really just my opinion of those characters.

Something else that I found quite weird that's not really a problem but I wanted to mention it, is the name. In the first two books the word 'tights' is added into the title of a play where it sounds similar and is quite clever. Those plays are the ones Tallulah is studying at school in the book but this time the name didn't work.

The ending was a little bit bitter sweet for me. In the end Tallulah has her first proper boyfriend, Charlie, which is great and is how I expected the book to end but it wasn't the ending I hoped for. Of course, this is only my opinion of how I wanted it to be but I really wanted Tallulah and Cain to be together. Even though he was a pretty horrible person, I still found myself being sad that the boy she chose wasn't him.

I do think that if you enjoyed the first two books in this series, you can appreciate this one more because I do think that if this was a stand alone book I wouldn't have enjoyed reading it. If you haven't already, I definitely would recommend reading Withering Tights.
