Starting To Wear Makeup - Beau Bloggers Collaboration

In the blogging community I am part of, called Beau Bloggers, we were given a challenge which was to pair up and both talk about something within a given theme. I was paired with the wonderful Izzy K (who's blog and YouTube channel I will link here) and we were given a problem and a solution. For this we decided to talk about when you should start to wear makeup as it is something Izzy would like to talk about and is relevant to my post An Awkward Question: Makeup from about a week ago. If you'd like to see a more detailed description of my thoughts on makeup, you can read that post.

For many people, beginning to wear makeup can be a little difficult. Lots of parents don't agree with it for many different reasons so it's tough if you feel you're not allowed. These disagreements can easily be justified with simply they're your parents and you should listen to them but I do believe that now things have changed in society, it's not fair of them to stop you. Most of the time, people will say things like you don't need to wear makeup or you're too young but that isn't always the point of it. Telling people they're pretty enough without makeup is a cliche line that I think everyone is tired of hearing. And being too young isn't something I see as necessarily true in most situations. It's different for everyone but my friends started wearing makeup at around age twelve. For some this may be quite young but I would say that's a normal, suitable age. This is a time people want to act older than their age because it's close to the beginning of the teen age. So I'd say just let them.

Personally I have only just started to attempt makeup. There's a lot that goes on and I find it quite confusing. I already had a few things I'd picked up over the years that were free from magazines or that I took from my mum. Other than that, I went out and bought some brushes, concealer, and eyeliner. Every now and again I will practice a little bit so that when I'm ready to go out in my makeup, I will feel confident that it doesn't look like a complete mess.

Here are just a few of my tips on when and how to start wearing makeup:

  • Start small. Don't go out and buy all the expensive products and the entire new range of whatever. Think about what it is you'll want to use when you don't know all that much about what you're doing. If you go straight in with all the elaborate looks and then decide that you don't actually want to wear makeup, then you will have wasted a lot of money.
  • Talk to people or watch YouTube. There are hundreds of beauty gurus out there in the big sea of YouTube waiting to help you so go find them. If you have friends or family who wear makeup, ask them about it.
  • Practice. Don't expect you'll get everything perfect first time or second time or twentieth time. The first time I tried to use eyeliner I tripped over a shoe and managed to a great wing look but now every time I try again it looks like I've poured paint over myself. It's difficult but you just have to keep trying and not expecting it to go well when it's all new to you.
  • Why do I want to wear makeup? Think about why it really is you've decided to wear makeup. This will affect the certain products you buy and how you feel when wearing it. A lot of the time if I'm around people my own age I especially self conscious because of the way I look. By wearing makeup, I will feel more confident and more like everyone else.
When it comes to age, there isn't a rule of when you can wear makeup. But I think it's about finding the right age where you feel you can do all of the above. I find it difficult to not wear makeup because that's what everyone else is doing but it doesn't actually matter what other people are doing. In the same light, don't feel pressured not to wear makeup because you're too young or people are telling you to feel comfortable without it. If you're not happy in the way you look, it will affect your mood and the way you interact with others so it shouldn't matter to other people what you're doing.

I hope that this could be helpful with starting to wear makeup. You can see Izzy's post here for more advice. That's all for now, hope to see you next time. Bye
